Awards and recognition

Investors in People

Investors in People Glamorgan is the first University in Wales (and only the 8th in the whole of the UK) to have been awarded the nationally recognised Investor in People status, the UK’s premier award for staff training and development. The University values the contribution of all staff and are committed to helping them develop professionally so that you can have the best education possible.

A Fairtrade University

Fairtrade Logo

Glamorgan is now officially a Fairtrade university. The Fairtrade Foundation granted us this status to recognise what we are doing to help create a fairer and safer world. A group of staff and students have worked together for three years to earn this achievement, developing Fairtrade across the University and raising awareness of the movement. We are committed to Fairtrade produce throughout our shops, cafes and restaurants, which in reality means that everyone here is supporting the sustainable development of farmers and farming in three continents. But our work won’t end here. This is just the beginning of our commitment that could involve you. To find out more about how you could help, visit http://www.glam.ac.uk/glamlife

BM TRADA Certification, Environmental Management Systems

BM TRADA Certification Glamorgan is the only UK university to achieve the ISO14001 award for environmental management. The University takes its responsibility for sustainable development seriously. Glamorgan encourages staff and students to use public transport; work closely with the Local Authority on recycling issues; and train managers to handle resourses effectively.

Positive About Disabled People

Positive About Disabled People In October 2004, Glamorgan was awarded the disability symbol by Jobcentre Plus. The awarding of the symbol guarantees that the University has agreed to meet the given commitments regarding the recruitment, employment, retention and career development of disabled people. The University aims to build on current successes in employing and supporting people with disabilities.

Centre of Excellence

Centre of Excellence In 2004, The University of Glamorgan Business School achieved a Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) Centre of Excellence accreditation for the second consecutive year.

The accreditation was awarded to the University’s Graduate Diploma course on the basis of various academic achievements, predominantly quality of course provision and exam pass rates.

The students had an outstanding year – well above the national average. Four of the exam pass rates were 90% and over, and two of the exam pass rates were 100%.

The Centre of Excellence is the highest award that any provider of CIPS can obtain. There are currently only 13 Centres out of the 74 providers in the UK, with Glamorgan and Bangor being the only Centre of Excellence in Wales.

Students that gain the CIPS Graduate Diploma will reap the benefits when pursuing their career because there are a shortage of qualified professionals; resulting in a high demand for them and very promising prospects.

National Partnership Awards

Glamorgan has consistently been awarded accolades for the quality of our courses, this includes first prize on three occasions in the National Partnership Awards for excellence in course design and teaching ability.

Centres of Expertise

Electronic Product Engineering within the School of Electronics, and Environmental Technology and Management, have been designated Centres of Expertise for the whole of Wales.
