University Strategy 2010-15
Vision
“By 2015, the University of Glamorgan will be unrivalled for its professional, employment-focused education and research-informed innovation and business engagement.”
The University is unashamedly bold with its vision for the period 2010-15. If we are to raise the reputation and profile of the institution whilst ensuring our long-term sustainability during what will be challenging times, we will need to focus our activities, be distinctive and create value for our students and key stakeholders.
Mission
“Transforming lives through professional, employment-focused higher education and distinctive research and innovation relevant to economic, social and cultural need”
The University is committed to transforming lives, indeed, this has been our mantra since the establishment of the South Wales & Monmouthshire School of Mines close to a century ago to serve the omnipotent local coal industry. Our focus now, as it was then, will be on the provision of professional, employment-focused higher education for our students. We have also established a strong reputation for research activity across and between a broad range of academic disciplines. We are committed to the enhancement of our research capability, but increasingly it will be in the context of driving innovation and business engagement. Focused collaboration will be critical to achieving our vision and ensuring our long-term sustainability. Working without boundaries, we will reinforce existing partnerships and develop innovative collaborative activities to support economic renewal, enhance social justice and champion cultural awareness across Wales and beyond.
Our Core Values
Underpinning our vision and mission, the University will strive to adhere to the following core values in all of its activities:
- Harnessing and developing the creative, innovative and entrepreneurial capabilities of our students and staff
